How many sessions will it take?
I will generally advise how many sessions would be required at the intial consultation and this would depend on your case history and the levels of stress and anxiety you present with, but as a general guide:
- stop smoking therapy is one session of 1.5-2 hours
- most phobias are usually resolved within 3-4 sessions
- motivation, exam, public speaking and performance are 3-6 sessions
- most other issues are usually between 8-12 sessions
What is hypnosis or trance?
Hypnosis is a narrowing of the focus of attention. We can go into hypnosis when we focus our attention, and then become more absorbed in that focus. We enter into hypnosis many times a day, when we are driving, exercising, reading a book etc. and is an extremely natural state.
Trance itself is a heightened state of deep relaxation and in a controlled environment is a safe and enjoyable experience.
Is hypnotherapy like stage hypnosis?
No. Clinical Hypnotherapy works on the basis of constructing a safe, positive and collaborative process called the therapeutic alliance, formed by the client and the therapist. When a client is committed to change, this enhances the process whereby positive change can be achieved quickly and sustained.
Is hypnotherapy a magic wand?
No. All therapy is a co-operative interaction between the Therapist and the Client which helps form and strengthen an important process called the Therapeutic Alliance.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy works quickly and effectively when the approach is collaborative and where there is full commitment to making positive changes.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
Yes. Hypnotherapy is a gentle and extremely safe experience, with many people reporting it as a pleasant experience, leaving them deeply relaxed, and there are very few contradictions. The clinical setting also lends to the safety of the therapy.
